“Walk Through”: 12 years of Design Week Festival

As it has been in the last 12 years, the Fuorisalone would not be the same without the music of the Design Week Festival organised by Elita.

As it has been in the last 12 years, the Fuorisalone would not be the same without the music of the Design Week Festival organised by Elita. If it is true that music is a kind of design, the success of this event within the event absolutely confirms that.

For the next edition, from April 4th to 9th, the theme (and official auction) is #walkthrough, an invitation to continue going, to walk through space, genres and experiences to discover innovation. Just like it is with the most interesting design projects of Salone and Fuorisalone.

For this reason, the 2017 Design Week Festival will be malleable, nomadic, homeless and unexpected, capable of fitting more or less well-known spaces in Milan. Particular attention will be paid to urban ethnic sounds, those that are forging the identity of many metropolitan areas as well as many aspects of today’s pop music.

The event will be introduced by Okzharp & Manthe Ribane, South African artists members of the movements of contemporary South African art, and will end with Ali Shaheed Muhammad, founder and member of A Tribe Called Quest, seminal band of U.S. hip hop who recently appeared at the Grammy Award with an anti-Trump performance.

Between these two poles new performers will stand out such as Moses Boyd, rising star of electronic jazz, Glenn Astro, producer of the band Ninja Tune, OY, a duo exploring African traditions to bring them into the universe of electronic music and Nan KOLÈ, producer who perfectly combines the new suburban African rhythms with the atmospheres of deep house music. These artists will be accompanied by old acquaintances such as David Rodigan, undisputed star of international reggae, Sadar Bahar, giant of the deep house music universe and Rich Medina, dj and poet of the black culture. On the other hand, the Milano Design Award ceremony will see the performance of Cobu, nappo-American organisation combining Taiko percussions with tip-tap.

In line with the traditional formula of the festival, that has always been offering an overview of the greatest talents of the international club scenario, Ame, Red Axes, Moscoman, Marvin & Guy, Marcellus Pittman, Dj Qu, Hiver and a label night with a tech-wave vibe with the Hormonal Sequence, who will introduce the Broken English Club, Dies Irae and Samantha.
