The Design Prize

At Teatro Gerolamo the award ceremony for the first edition of the international award for design culture promoted by Abitare and Designboom, and sponsored by Milan City Council

The winners of the first edition of The Design Prize, the international award for design culture promoted by Abitare and Designboom, and sponsored by Milan City Council, are announced on 4 April at a gala evening organised tranks to the collaboration of Edison, one of the main operators in the energy field in Italy and Europe.

The Design Prize has an original format and considers the world of design as a complex universe that stretches across many disciplines and does not just boil down to the product and its creator. It chooses therefore to reward the creative processes that go into the development of a product. It also acts from the inside, involving in the drawing up of the nominations an international network of over 150 acclaimed professionals, who evaluate what has been going on in the design world over the past year. There are ten award categories that consider many different aspects of design, from social impact, communication and distribution to experimentation, artistic content and curatorship, with three awards for individuals: the most promising newcomer, the best designer and a lifetime achievement award.

The winners are chosen by a panel of experts. Alongside the editors of Abitare and Designboom, these include Alexandra Cunningham Cameron (Design Miami), Ingeborg de Roode (Stedelijk Museum), Maria Cristina Didero (design curator), Ensamble Studio, Ma Yansong (Mad Architects) Jeffrey Schnapp (metaLab Harvard) e Cristina Tajani (Comune di Milano). #thedesignprize
