April 2018

Zaha Hadid Design | Fuorisalone 2018

As part of Fuorisalone 2018, Zaha Hadid Design (ZHD) will be unveiling new iterations of some of its most sought-after product designs at Galleria Giovanni Scacchi in the Brera Design District from April 17th – 22nd.

The Avia designs for Italian lighting brand Slamp were first introduced in 2013. Avia Edition, three new versions of the handcrafted chandeliers available in shades of Turquoise, Blue and Ultramarine in a limited series of 99 pieces per colour, will be installed in the main gallery space. Woody Yao, Co-Director of Zaha Hadid Design, provided some insight into the relationship between the manufacturing and the design process: “The collaborations with Slamp are about simplicity. They are functional objects as well as sculptural. The project has challenged us as designers to think outside the box to translate the 3D form to a 2D manufacturing process. In effect the simple line of the laser etching inscribes a 3D form.”

New additions to the Zaha Hadid Design Collection, such as the limited edition Node vessel, are also on display. Inspired by cellular structures in nature, these vessels advance the technical possibilities of milling to achieve a greater degree of subtlety in texture and tone, while their innovative structure references the dynamic inversion of gravity evident throughout Hadid’s architecture.

Visitors can also make their way from the ground floor to the gallery courtyard where the new Serac Bench for The Italian Lab will populate the space. Crafted in Italy using ultra-high performance concrete the seating sculpture can be seen in a deep and dramatic charcoal finish.
