The exhibition of the creative industry from Rio de Janeiro celebrates ten years of participation in the Milan Design Week

An important anniversary: Rio+Design marks its tenth year at the Fuori Salone of the Milan Design Week. At the invitation of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), from 17 to 22 April, the initiative of the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, promoted through the Cabinet and Economic Development Secretariat, will this year be part of the Be Brasil exhibition, taking place among the art galleries and fashion studios in the Maroncelli Street.

"For us it is a mission to show the world what Rio de Janeiro has to offer: original design and quality. And we are very proud of it: in the foreign market, our products are increasingly gaining the appreciation of buyers, distributors and the media. This is the result, among other initiatives, of the work carried out in the last decade to strengthen our brand and highlight the reputations of our designers, who will yet again present their innovative products during the Milan Design Week. We are already moving to establish new partnerships and new businesses in this year's edition", says the Undersecretary for Economic Development of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Dulce Ângela Procópio.

About 30 creations from 14 design studios (including some well-known names as well as new talents) will participate in the "Made in Rio" production panorama. Furniture, objets d’art and items for everyday living are part of the varied selection of pieces.

Guto Indio da Costa (Indio da Costa Design) will introduce his first collection of wooden chairs, showing the version of the Serelepe in wood- with its dynamic profile and timeless style, as well as ICZERO1, rich with "bossa", featuring a curvilinear back and slimline seat.

Zanini de Zanine (Studio Zanini) will exhibit the Serfa armchair and pouffe in leather and wood, a tribute to legendary designers Sergio Rodrigues (de Zanini’s mentor early in his career) and Ricardo Fasanello.

Carlos Alcantarino (Estúdio Alcantarino) will delight the public with his Lov armchair, a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional rocking chair, made of Tauari wood and aged leather, suitable for both the living room and the terrace.

Gisela Simas (Original Practical Design) will be represented with two surprising cork products: the Dora coffee table with its bold design and the innovative Congonhas ceiling lamp, equipped with LED lighting technology of adjustable intensity and inspired by the profile of the wings of a Boeing 737-800.

Ricardo Graham (O Ebanista), consistent with the activity that inspires the name of his studio, will participate with seven creations that enhance different types of wood and refined joints: the Paris sofa, the Freijó, Braúna and Muirapiranga vases, the Ipê fruit bowl, the Pirralhos and Aragonês benches.

Gustavo Martini will exhibit the Joá chair (characterized by the contrast between the stiffness of the black metal frame and the naturalness of the soft fabric seat), Carmen fruit bowl (modular and developed with 3D printing, in collaboration with Camila Fix) and the Tenere vase (in oak, with its captivating geometric shape and amazing play of colours).

Fubbá Objetos Inteligentes will show the Dumbum coffee table: versatile, stackable and at variable heights, designed by architect Marta Rubio Lopez, the table is made of plywood with a bamboo laminate finish. In addition, the Boiadeiro portable stool, created by Alessandro Montenegro and Henrique Gomma – assembled without screws or hardware, is composed of a carbon steel frame coated with electrostatic paint and a canvas seat wrapped in leather that features reused wooden pins. The stool can be used with a traditional posture or can be sat on like a saddle.

Gustavo Bittencourt (Atelier Gustavo Bittencourt) is the author of the Brise-Soleil buffet, which will be exhibited for the occasion: the buffet, in freijo wood with a retractable door, is a tribute to the brise-soleil, an architectural element that provides shelter from the intensity of the sun.

Leonardo Lattavo and Pedro Moog (Lattoog) promise to enchant visitors to the exhibition with the Gotinha project, a birdhouse, suspended and shaped like a raindrop, made of solid wood, coloured synthetic fibres and rope, adding a nautical touch.

Victor Mascarenhas and Luciana Borges (Bolei) will present the Menos 1 Lixo glass (Less 1 Reject) - practical, reusable and sustainable, developed for campaign for conscious consumption with the same name. In retractable silicone, recyclable and resistant, it is ideal for serving hot or cold drinks.

Leo Vairo e Till Pupak (Velt) will be represented by the stool-ladder 7A, another delightful object that will be on show: multifunctional, ideal for small spaces, the item features a carbon steel body finished in electrostatic paint and stainless steel feet.

Also worthy of mention is the curious Répiauer bottle opener, by Gustavo Falcão, made from recycled materials, ranging from the various types of wood that compose it up to metal brackets from iron shelves.

Underlining the origins of the exhibition, Renata Pereira (Oficina 021) is the designer of the table lamp line, cut and engraved using lasers, with motifs inspired by the Rio de Janeiro landscape, such as Corcovado, Pão de Açúcar and Morro Dois Irmãos.
