A light installation that celebrates agriculture

"Grow" is a striking new project by artist and designer Daan Roosegaarde, a tribute to the theme of agriculture.

A luminous expanse in the Dutch countryside. A twenty thousand square metre farmland, dedicated to the cultivation of leeks, dotted with blue and red LED lights. We are talking about "Grow", the new light installation created by artist and designer Daan Roosegaarde to pay homage to the theme of agriculture, central to man's livelihood and almost taken for granted.

"Grow," as the voiceover in the presentation video explains, “highlights the importance of innovation in the agriculture system: How can cutting-edge light design help plants to grow more sustainably? How can we make the farmer the hero?

As well as being visually stunning, the project is based on scientific research showing that the use of ultraviolet light helps to improve crop growth, reducing the use of pesticides by up to 50%.

"GROW is the dreamscape which shows the beauty of light and sustainability. Not as a utopia but as a protopia, improving step by step,” said Daan Roosegaarde, that for thiw project worked along with his team of designers and experts developed GROW over two years, informed by expert knowledge sessions at Studio Roosegaarde, Wageningen University & Research, Springtij Forum, and the World Economic Forum in Davos.
