Founded in 1927, Cassina launched industrial design in Italy during the 50’s by taking a completely new approach which saw a shift from handcraftsmanship to serial production. The company was pioneering in the way that it showed a striking inclination for research and innovation, combining technological skill with traditional craftsmanship. For the first time important architects and designers were involved and encouraged to envision new designs to be transformed into projects, a characteristic that still distinguishes the company. Today Cassina continues to represent new ways of living, offering complete and harmonious settings that bring together the best of contemporary design..
‘The Cassina Perspective’ is a holistic approach to the home where innovative products come together with the collection’s icons to create welcoming, eclectic atmospheres enriched with a selection of accessories, lighting, curtains and rugs to complete the home environment. Considering this, today Cassina proposes a complete offer for the living, dining and outdoor areas as well as the newly presented bedroom area this year.
Analysis and research to design the future _
Thanks to the work carried out by Cassina LAB, a collaboration between the Cassina Research and Development Centre and Poli.design at the Milan Polytechnic, a research has been launched to identify innovative, sustainable and performing materials to be used in the creation of both new and existent products.
Through an in-depth study of different materials, also used in other sectors, Cassina has presented the first solutions in the 2020 Collection. For example, a 100% recycled fibre, made from PET mainly recovered from the sea, has been incorporated into the padding of all the new sofas: Sengu Sofa by Patricia Urquiola, Duc-Duc by Mario Bellini and Mex-Hi by Piero Lissoni, as well as the iconic LC Fauteuil Grand Confort Durable by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand.
The importance of well-being _
Well-being is an important factor that can increase the value of a project, especially if it is generated by innovative and eco-compatible solutions that can guarantee new functions that optimize comfort and environmental quality.
In view of this, Cassina LAB's know-how has been applied to the sleeping area. In the development of the new projects by Patricia Urquiola (Bio-mbo) and Rodolfo Dordoni (Acute), original sound absorption and air purification functions have been introduced and an in-depth study has been carried out on the mattress collection, considering both ergonomics and materials, to favour well-being in the bedroom.
