The circle. Think Tank Project 2020-2021
This school year an interesting concept has weaved its way across all the Early Years classes, the circle. This concept wasn’t proposed or thought of before working with the children. The atelierista welcomed the school year without imaginative boundaries. No thoughts or ideas were put forward. Going back to physical school was such a gift. Being together and sharing the past and looking into the future was the opening for the school year.
We were soon drawn into a circular journey. Every class mirrored this spontaneous illustration of the moment and created works where the circle was the protagonist. Rings, circles and sphere spilt from our imagination.
A circle is, a shape consisting of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point, the center. We sit in circles at given points and we all look for our center. Could this be the purpose of learning and education? Looking for our center?
Human history places great meaning to circles as many believe that there is something primordial, divine and perfect in them. Think of the sphere or the ring that can be found in nature. The way people sit, get together, look, think and move.
Some say that we carry the story of humanity inside us at all times and across generations. Could this be so?
At St. Louis Caviglia we do.
