The Twist: Cultural and Emotional Crossings
KOYORI is a new design brand from the Maruni Group that embodies a distinct Japanese aesthetic. The name KOYORI itself refers to the paper cords used in the traditional decorative technique of Mizuhiki. Born out of the collaboration between a number of Japanese manufacturing companies specialising in furniture and interior products, KOYORI marries its Japanese heritage with an all-European essence, given its strong ties with Enzo Mari and its connections with British designer Jasper Morrison, Brand Directing Advisor, and Sebastian Fehr. On display at Triennale is the brand's first collection of five seats: the small armchairs Kawara, Musubi and the chair Shaku designed by brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, and the small armchair Miau and the chair Edaha designed by the Italian-Danish couple GamFratesi. Through the exhibition space, designed by GamFratesi, and its collection, KOYORI aims to share the values of Japanese history, materials and craftsmanship with the public.
