The Room of Requirement
-
From this premise, borrowed from a magical world, comes the co-production of Secondome and Studio F: a collection of necessary furnishing accessories in recovered solid wood. The project, curated by Claudia Pignatale -Founder and Art Director of Secondomesince 2006 -features five Italian designers: Simone Fanciullacci, Duccio Maria Gambi, Giulio Iacchetti, Naessi Studio and Gio Tirotto.Five talents, with different stylistic characteristics, who were asked by the curator to design a "Necessary" piece of furnishing in solid wood, a material masterfully shaped by Studio F, an extraordinary joinery in Turin founded in 2017 by 2young entrepreneurs, Federico BoschiazziandFrancesco Lucchetti.Necessity 1325–75; Middle Englishnecessite“Latinnecessitās”,equivalent tonecess(e) needful +-itās-ity-somethingnecessaryor indispensable:food, shelter, and other necessities of life.-the fact ofbeing necessary or indispensable; indispensability:the necessity of adequate housing.-an imperative requirement or need for something:the necessity for a quick decision.-the state or fact of being necessary or inevitable:to face the necessity of testifying in court.-an unavoidable need or compulsion to do something:not by choice but by necessity.-Philosophy.the quality of following inevitably from logical, physical, or moral laws.Even if this may be the canonical and literal definition of the term, it is equally true that each individual can attribute a personalmeaning to the concept of what is necessary, referenced to ones personal values and needs at a given time. There is no such thing as an absolute necessity, yet, as in the Room of Requirement described in Harry Potter, it is possible to discover objects that unexpectedly turn out to be indispensable on a deeper level than a material one. In this collection we try to decline the term ‘need’ according to its underlying meanings, as a condition, a need... which we have endeavored to meet by creating objects that satisfy the soul.
- Secondome and Studio F are two Italian companies that share a passion for design, craftsmanship and Made in Italy. Recovered solid wood is the real protagonist of this collection, a unique and sustainable material transformed into something special by the five talents who designed this exclusive collection. The collection comprises an Altamira buffet/sideboard by Simone Fanciullacci, the Jeunesse side tables/stools by Duccio Maria Gambi, the Croce Martelo cross and Alalunga bench by Giulio Iacchetti, the Nexum table by Naessi Studio and the Book Room chair/lamp by Gio Tirotto. For this collection, a single type of wood from a single tree was used, a 5-meter tall antique maple treein Turin , infested by woodworm, that as a result of natural disaster collapsed, and was subsequently reclaimed .
