The history of the railway concerns us all: it finds its way into art, literature, film and poetry. Across every corner of the globe and within every culture, stations, trains and tracks have consistently been intertwined with particular meaningful stories. This is why we want to offer a participatory journey that recovers, through the organs of sense, the relationship with this precious world that has built, over the decades, the destiny of entire communities.
The first stage of this journey concerns the sense of smell. Perfumes are like time machines: they gently lead us to rediscover places, sensations, special situations. The workshop facilitates the discovery of key identity traits from a past world, which shaped the identities of entire generations within communities. Particular olfactory notes can bring back memories of, for example, old velvet furniture or the seats of early industrial plastic, or even the bursts of ozone that characterise some electric engines.
A journey through time, guided by various olfactory suggestions, offers visitors an immersive experience in the history of the railway.
