D'ORO D'ART - Introduction

In a world where art is constantly redefined by the relentless advance of technology, D'ORO D'ART emerges as the ultimate fusion of heritage and innovation. This project, a perfect intersection of artistic craftsmanship and contemporary art, opens a new expressive horizon-one that challenges the very essence of bookmaking tradition by intertwining it with the evocative magnetism of video art.

D'ORO D'ART is an extraordinary creation: a physical book that houses an artwork coming to life the moment its cover is opened. Each piece masterfully blends the tangible allure of a D'ORO book with the virtual enchantment of moving images.

This project has embraced cutting-edge technologies, including crystal screens and a unique playback system in which the video-sound file remains an indivisible, immutable, and irremovable component.

Guiding this innovative fusion are two leading figures in the contemporary art scene, Barbara London and Valentino Catricalà, who have served as the project's curators since 2019-the year of the debut piece by Dara Birnbaum.

The roots of video art trace back to the early 1960s, when artists from all over the world began harnessing portable electronic technology to express their creative visions. As technology progressed, video art gradually moved from the periphery to the very heart of the artistic landscape.

Today, technology is omnipresent, reshaping the way we engage with the world. It captivates us with its intimacy while simultaneously holding the power to distance us from reality.

Technology is the canvas upon which contemporary artists navigate an intricate and interconnected world. In an era where interdisciplinary practice has become the norm, artists now enjoy the freedom to choose the medium that best aligns with their creative vision.

D'ORO D'ART - Federico Solmi - The Grand Voyage

The Grand Voyage: Three unique books that dissolve reality into a digital world.

Through Solmi's sharp irony, characters emerge in an extraordinary duality: on one side, they are vividly portrayed in a physical dimension, while on the other, they move through digital worlds where humor and contemplation intertwine. One-minute loops, evoking mythology and contemporary culture, draw the viewer into the unpredictability of a journey where time, dimensions, and geography dissolve-only to be rediscovered under a new light.

The Goddess

Capturing the vanity of women in popular culture, The Goddess presents a contemporary deity whose image is meticulously veiled to enhance her mythical allure. The background-a splendid Byzantine mosaic-adds an unexpected layer of richness to the narrative. This choice removes The Goddess from any specific context, emphasizing the idea of an eternal presence in the modern era.

The Wizard

Dressed in a 16th-century noble's attire, The Wizard ascends to a state of profound connection with the ethereal through the rediscovery of spontaneity. The constant juxtaposition of complexity and intimacy-as an emotional state interacting with the surrounding environment-transports the viewer into a surreal, everyday turmoil. Solmi's portrait captures the essence of a man who, in moments of quietude, finds solace and contemplation in a metaphysical state. Here, a deep bond with the ethereal is unveiled, born from the simplicity of companionship.

The Wanderer

The Wanderer travels through a timeless dimension, projecting into the future through inspirations drawn from the 15th century, offering a deeply personal perspective on the world. Behind the appearance of a medieval warrior-one seemingly lifted from a Fritz Lang film of the early 20th century-lie the enigmatic facets of a visionary mind, where childlike wonder and adult introspection are inextricably intertwined.

This contrast between childlike exuberance and mature contemplation paints a vivid portrait of complex individuality, offering a profound commentary on the workings of visionary minds.
