Makio Hasuike is recognized as a leading representative of international product design and is considered a relevant figure in Italian design culture. His work eschews nostalgic self-celebratory comebacks; he pursues innovation by projecting into the future and anticipating answers to real needs or those that will become such. In 2016 he received the prestigious Compasso D'Oro Lifetime Achievement Award, thanks to his broad and relevant experience and recognized contribution as an anticipator of the complex relationship between design and self-production.
Makio Hasuike graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1962. He began his professional experience in Japan where he worked for a year as a designer at Seiko, designing a series of watches for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Since 1963 in Italy, he founded his studio in Milan in 1968, one of the first Industrial Design studios in Italy. In 1982 he embarked on an experimental project by conceiving and marketing a series of innovative products, thus the design company MH Way was born. In more than fifty years of activity, he has developed numerous projects in heterogeneous sectors: from technological and precision instruments to accessories and tools for work and leisure, from small and large household appliances to furniture and objects. He is a member of the Founding Committee of the Master of Strategic Design at the Milan Polytechnic and has taught at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Milan Polytechnic, Domus Academy and Raffles Institute Milan
