Milano Design Week has made Milan the world design capital by definition, the first and only city that over the years has managed to create a consolidated and continuously renewed reality.

An event in balance between the presence of the fair and that of the events spread throughout the urban area, capable of generating extraordinary numbers that have made this kermesse an example to follow replicated throughout the world and taken up by the city of Milan as a format to be applied to other contexts, at different times of the year.

How Milan became Design Capital

The documentary film Design Capital describes the seven days that, every year, make Milan the capital of design. Against the backdrop of installations, people, neighborhoods and parties that bring the whole city together, the film (a Studiolabo production shot in 2014) collects the voices of important designers as well as opinion makers who give a faithful picture of the event and its impact on the entire design industry.

Fuorisalone

Fuorisalone is the set of events distributed in different areas of Milan on the same days when the Salone Internazionale del Mobile takes place.

The Fuorisalone is not a Fair event, it doesn’t have a central organization and it’s not managed by any Institution. It started spontaneously early in the 1980’s thanks to the will of companies working in the furnishing and industrial design sectors. Currently, it is expanding into many related sectors including automotive, technology, telecommunications, art, fashion and food.

Today, the various exhibitors can organize independently or refer to Studiolabo, which gives assistance: from the search for the location to the definition of strategies and to special communication plans that can be chosen on Fuorisalone.it.

Salone del Mobile

The Salone del Mobile is the global benchmark for the Home Furnishing and Design Sector, a great vehicle of promotion. It made its first appearance in 1961, designed to promote italian furniture and furnishing in the world, and it has continued to do so impeccably, ensuring that the quality of Italian furniture is known to all four corners of the earth, and continues so to do, with half of all its visitors coming from around the world.
