The new Signature Kitchen Suite modular cabinet designed by Patricia Urquiola

Design — 02 May 2024

The high-end built-in appliance brand collaborates with the international designer on an exclusive collection of material cabinets for the Undercounter Convertible Refrigerator

Patricia Urquiola - Spanish designer and architect, founder of Studio Urquiola - has designed "Mantle", the modular, free-standing cabinet, conceived as the perfect complement to the Signature Kitchen Suite's under-shelf convertible refrigerator. In increasingly fluid spaces, where the boundary between living and kitchen disappears, Urquiola's intention was to transform the appliance into a real piece of furniture.

"Mantle" synthesizes the technology of Signature Kitchen Suite within a textured, sculpturally shaped piece of furniture pervaded by an aura of craftsmanship. Hence the refrigerator becomes a versatile object of design, physically and visibly more accessible, suitable for positioning in different areas of the home, such as the lounge, the bedroom or even the bathroom, as well as in public spaces such as hotels and offices.

In this respect, the Undercounter convertible refrigerator by Signature Kitchen Suite is the perfect counterpart for this project: thanks to its reduced dimensions and practical layout with two convertible drawers that lend themselves to personalisation, it is an extremely versatile appliance for the storage of food, beverages and even beauty or pharmaceutical products. The cabinet is available in three modular variants: the basic module with the refrigerator may be integrated with additional storage space via either a horizontal or vertical extension.

At Milan Design Week 2024, "Mantle" was presented with the exclusive finish in Cimento tiles (also signed by Patricia Urquiola) and produced using the eponymous material, a revolutionary and light concrete compound made from natural components. The tiles – in shades of Vanilla, Blue, Burgundy, Green or Sand – enclose the refrigerator with repetitive shapes to create a design that evolves into a sort of sculptural visual fabric, almost like a modern totem. As an alternative, a wood finish is also available, in a natural or stained colour.
