Giardino degli Aranci, Rome.

Relax in the shade and soak up the view of Rome accompanied only by the sound of cicadas. Legend has it that San Domenico brought back a bitter orange tree from Spain and planted it in the courtyard of the nearby Basilica of Santa Sabina in 1200 AD.

It is said to have been the first orange tree in all of Italy. Today the garden takes its name from the numerous orange trees present.

What to do nearby:

- Peek through the Keyhole of the Order of Malta

- A Roman lunch at the trattoria Da Enzo al 29 is a must

- Stroll along the Lungotevere at sunset
