MMOOS. presents MOSTRO, the debut collection by BRH+

Design — 15 December 2024

MOSTRO is an invitation to embrace the idea of the extraordinary through sculptural symbolism, employing remarkable materials and exceptional craftsmanship in their creation.

MMOOS. enters the market with its inaugural collection, MOSTRO, designed by the Turin-based studio BRH+—also responsible for the brand’s art direction. The collection was unveiled for the first time at EDIT Napoli 2024 in the Sala dei Catasti. MOSTRO is a line of furniture and accessories made from Rosa Peralba marble and travertine.

“Mostro” is an invitation to embrace and integrate the unique peculiarities of natural materials as enhancements rather than impediments. The travertine surfaces are left in their natural state, unfilled, and cut parallel to their metamorphic veins to reveal their structurally distinctive, porous identity. This contrasts sharply—both visually and tactilely—with the Rosa Peralba marble, which is carved from solid blocks, sculpted in the round, and polished by hand.

The search for unused quarried stone, sourced from blocks extracted decades ago from long-closed sites, reflects a responsible approach to design. This method aims to minimize extraction practices to conserve non-renewable natural resources while also rediscovering long-hidden varieties of stone.
For Rosa Peralba marble, all the blocks used in the MOSTRO collection originate from materials extracted in the 1990s from an ancient quarry in the Dolomite region near Brunico, which has since been abandoned.

MOSTRO represents millennia-old sedimentation revealed in an altered form, masterfully crafted into partially variable geometric modules, mobile joints, and architectural fragments. These pieces merge the ancient with the modern, translating elements of Italy’s poetic neo-liberty style into a contemporary context.

BRH+

Barbara Brondi and Marco Rainò are architects, designers, and independent curators. Their experimental approach materializes through practical design work, theoretical research, and critical engagement in contemporary architecture and design.
In 2002, they founded BRH+, a studio operating with a wide-ranging approach derived from the concept of architecture as a convergence of disciplines. They view design as a poetic declaration, a cultural act, and a strategic lever for positive social transformation.

MMOOS.

MMOOS. is a new entity in contemporary Italian design, dedicated to creating and promoting functional objects made from natural stone, marble, and travertine. These pieces are rigorously monomaterial, highly poetic, deeply symbolic, purely essential, and programmatically unconventional. MMOOS. produces series of objects that, due to the inherently variable nature of the materials used, are absolutely unique.
MMOOS. projects a rare heritage of expertise in the stone sector into the future, a tradition cultivated in Turin, Italy, since 1919 by the Sommo family of stonemasons.
