The press conference to present the 58th edition of the Salone del Mobile, scheduled for 9-14 April at Fiera Milano Rho was held on Thursday February 14th at the Triennale. Many important innovations were presented: two large installations in the city and at the fair exhibition centre dedicated to Leonardo, a 3-year collaboration with the Fondazione del Teatro alla Scala (a bond that combines common values, created to promote the talent of the Philharmonic and offer the design community an opportunity to live a unique experience) and presented by Claudio Luti- President of Salone del Mobile- some new exhibition formats, such as Workspace 3.0 and S. Alberto Bonisoli, the Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities, opened the conference in a room full of field professionals, journalists and Institutions’ members, who speaks of the Salone del Mobile as no longer as a fair, but as a system that is part of the Italian collective mind-set defining design as a cultural heritage and for this it must be protected and promoted with tools such as business museums and archives. (Museo del Design di Milano, for which the government will invest 10 million euros).
The Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala underlines how design and the city of Milan need support. Salone del Mobile is business, but also culture, an important element for the city's ever-growing tourism, but it’s also an opportunity to open up to innovations with pragmatism and originality.
Stefano Boeri highlighted the importance of creating a system and starting a dialogue with the Salone, considered to be a design research and experimentation lab, officially announcing the opening of the Italian Design Museum on April 8th, in concomitance with the Salone 2019.
Emanuele Orsini, President of Federlegno Arredo, reiterated the positive results of the industry and summarizes the Salone’s agenda with three key words: Innovation, Industry and Creativity.
Finally, the President of Salone del Mobile added the new word completing the Manifesto: Talent, better said the ability in making and thinking that stimulates new ways to see the world, creating beautiful and efficient solutions. A skill the companies and designers, protagonists of the Salone, have and develop constantly and that, symbolically, was inherited from Leonardo to whom the fair will dedicate two major events: Aqua, an installation by Marco Balich, and De-signo curated by Davide Rampello. To prove the international character of the Salone and the strict connection between design and art, two video interventions by Steven Holl and Neri&Hu and by James Bradburne and Alexander Pereira.
Also this year, Salone del Mobile will end with a great design party, which will take place at Palazzo Marino on April 12th to conclude the entire splendour the event will have spread.
