The Glitch Camp is back: the first free urban camping for students around the world

Lifestyle — 07 February 2025

Designed by the Istituto Europeo di Design, the first free urban camping event for students around the world returns to Milan Design Week 2025.

Milan is home to an extraordinary design heritage - creative and collaborative - that during Design Week opens up to the world. Again, this year, IED wishes to take advantage of this moment to facilitate access to this valuable heritage and make it accessible - on an international scale - to as many young people as possible.

The Glitch Camp, the first free urban camping for students around the world, returns after the last (first) edition. This shows how well the urban camping format works at international events and has great potential to become a global phenomenon. The participation of 300 students from 19 foreign universities and 31 different countries of origin in April 2024 will provide the basis on which the new edition will be planned.

The Glitch Camp will be set up in the grounds of the “Enrico Cappelli” Sports Centre - managed by Milanosport SSD S.p.A. - and will double the number of spots available, accommodating up to 600 university students. The project is in collaboration with the City of Milan and Milanosport SSD S.p.A.

WHY ATTENDING THE GLITCH CAMP?

Glitch is a disruption, the error, or bug from which an unexpected benefit can emerge, the anomaly that generates an opportunity. The Glitch Camp is the opportunity that emerges from the complexities related to acceptance, identifying an advantage in the disadvantage, and the resulting opportunities for socialisation and growth.

The Glitch Camp provides an alternative space and time to explore and engage in design within the hustle and bustle of the city. A shared space for the design community and beyond. This is an opportunity to experience camping and follow major design events with critical awareness.

An experience to enjoy quality time and not just the frenzy of Design Week: is it possible to reclaim leisure time through design?
