Perfumes are like time machines: a journey through railway history during the 2025 edition of Fuorisalone

Stations, trains and tracks have consistently been intertwined with particular meaningful stories. Starting from here FNM initiates a participatory journey that recovers, through the organs of sense, the relationship with this precious world that has built, over the decades, not only its history but the destiny of entire communities.

It starts with the sense of smell: scents, like real time machines, will create a journey to rediscover particular places, sensations and situations. “The sense of smell, what a discovery!” is a workshop that accompanies the recognition of some identifying elements of the past through different olfactory suggestions for an immersive experience in the history of the railway. Particular olfactory notes can bring back memories of, for example, old velvet furniture or the seats of early industrial plastic.

The sense of smell is perhaps the human being least celebrated sense. Yet, it is the sense that stimulates dreams and memories: a unique way of discovering the world that surrounds us. We would like to integrate these five suggestions with your contribution so that the olfactory history of this extraordinary world can be completed with the experience (and the olfactory memory) of everyone, no one excluded.
