The partnership will see digital art featured on the web but also live, starting in Beijing and continuing through 2022.
Hyundai Motor Company and Rhizome (United States-based cultural association affiliated with the New Museum in New York) recently announced their two-year partnership, which will see them involved in supporting digital art initiatives at an international level until 2022.
The collaboration is closely linked to the 'World on a Wire' project, a collective exhibition opening on 28 January at the Hyundai Motorstudio in Beijing and simultaneously on the website www.worldonawire.net. Curated by Rhizome, the exhibition aims to be a paradigm of a "hybrid reality", made up of augmented reality and artificial intelligence, synthetic life forms and virtual simulations, proposed here as artistic practices.
The collaboration with Rhizome follows Hyundai's commitment to the arts and culture, which has already begun with its well-established partnerships with art institutions such as the Tate Modern in London and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles. In this case, however, thanks to the support and expertise of Rhizome, the focus will be on experimentation and the dissemination of digital art, never so relevant as in this historical period.
“Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’ has always driven everything we do. Our partnership with Rhizome reflects this guiding principle, and we hope this initiative inspires and uplifts those with a passion for the creative arts, especially in these difficult times. We would like to invite you to experience this exhibition from wherever you are and witness the infinite possibilities when art meets technology.” Wonhong Cho (Executive Vice President and Head of Customer Experience Division at Hyundai Motor)
'World on a Wire' will move on a global tour reaching first Seoul and then Moscow, throughout 2021.
