The most wanted pieces of M&O 2018

— 26 January 2018

Last week we took part in one of the most important and worldwide-recognized design events. With Cecilie Manz, who was elected designer of the year and Italy as guest of honour, the selection of design objects and art pieces exhibited made this year’s edition, without any doubt, one of the best editions of the Maison & Objet.

Among the 3,000 brands and collections exhibited, we selected the top pieces, which we absolutely loved and we will reveal them to you below.

  • Cecilie Manz collection for Republic Fritz Hansen

Simple and soft, as her style, the Pouf collection for Fritz Hansen by Cecilie Manz, awarded Danish designer, creates a sophisticated piece for any interior. The selected materials highlight the extreme functionality of the collection. The Pouf is upholstered with Poul Kjærholm canvas as well as Remix textile from Kvadrat and separating the two is a string of natural leather.

  • Shade by NaniMarquina

NaniMarquina a Spanish brand based in Barcelona and NYC, presented a very beautiful rug collection designed by the young Turkish designer Begüm Cana Özgür. Every piece is produced in Pakistan and India. The Shade Collection 2018 is inspired by magical moments in nature where colours melt and speak for themselves. This collection of exquisite simplicity reflects a complex technical process to achieve the density, regularity, and fluidity of the desired effect. We loved the final effect blending colours in a harmonious way.

  • Horoscope chair by Missoni

Inspired by the Chinese lunar calendar and icons, the Horoscope collection by the Italian design maison proposes an explosion of colours and textures, creating playful yet elegant pieces. Directed by Rosita Missoni, the chiaroscuro, light and shade on the chair reflect the Yin and Yang balance. The vibrancy of the almost silvery tones on the fabric, like a historiated bas-relief, confer a lightness to all complements. The grey emphasises the elegance of the dining chairs (Miss); the slim legs wrapped in satin with an animated backrest, like a shield printed in silk.

  • Dali Divina by MaisonDada

For the first time, Maison Dada unveiled its collections in Europe. Thomas Dariel and Delphine Moreau, present a playful collection, poetic and bold. One of our favourites is the lamp Dali Divina designed in collaboration with the Chinese Studio WUU Design and Arik Levy and inspired by the famous French painter Sonia Delaunay, blending touch technology for creating a simple art piece with a surprise element. www.maisondada.com

  • Blend by Meridiani

For Maison & Objet 2018 edition MERIDIANI plays with an unusual presentation, moving away from the concept "home-style" space. Andrea Parisio, designer and art director, presents a strongly geometric scenography characterized by three sets, in which the collections are enclosed. The new collection Blend, combines various materials such as saddle leather – wisely hand-woven and stitched– rope, wood, aluminium, concrete – also proposed in new combinations. Joi Tavolo Basso is one of the protagonists and it gives life to new visual and tactile suggestions. www.meridiani.it

  • Kollur Pouf by Softline

This year Danish design stands out once again. The large soft and tender KOLLUR Pouf designed by Maja Bøgh Vindbjerg for Softline, a Danish brand founded in 1979, is part of the newest collection inspired by the Pacific Ocean’s blue tones. The Kollur Pouf is inspired by the well-known water towers popular all over the United States. The designer transforms this iconic shape into an eye-catching art piece and into a comfortable pouf big enough to sit two or three people at a time.

Leblon Delienne, French iconic brand famous for its collaborations with Pop Culture Icons, this year launches Le-A coffee table inspired by Star Wars and designed in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Design. Influenced by the stylish haircut of Princess Leia, this piece combines the curves characterized by Zaha Hadid`s style with the quality and the artisanal savoir-faire by Leblon Delienne.
