Cassina x One Block Down "Floating Opposites"

For its latest project, One Block Down collaborated with Cassina, the renowned Italian brand recognised worldwide for its innovative design.  Thanks to this special collaboration, a new interpretation of Gerrit T. Rietveld's Zig Zag chair was born for an exclusive collection of 30 pieces that will be available at One Block Down and will be presented during Milan Design Week. To interpret this iconic object, One Block Down traced its history, drawing inspiration from its - seemingly - unstable shape. At first glance, the cantilevered seat, so far from the traditional sequence of leg-seat-back elements, seems to lack a solid structure, even though its dovetail joints guarantee perfect stability. One Block Down wanted to develop this concept with an installation: a pyramid of 30 chairs that looks wobbly and fragile, but in fact is not at all.  To celebrate this collaboration, One Block Down has created a grandiose installation on the sixth floor of the La Rinascente car park in Milan, which can be visited for the duration of Milan Design Week, from 8 to 12 June. During this period it will be possible to pre-order the chairs online at oneblockdown.it.  The soul of the exhibition will be a pyramid of 30 chairs created to emphasise the linear nature of this iconic object. An exclusive invitation-only listening moment will help highlight the great importance that Gerrit T. Rietveld's Zig Zag chair continues to have in contemporary culture. Release date 15/06.
